The Robin Child Art Bursary

Earlier this term, the Robin Child exhibition ‘Not from Anywhere’ was held to mark just over 50 years since Robin came to Marlborough. During his twenty-one years at the helm, pupils opting to study Art grew considerably and the examination results were extraordinary, but far more important was the seismic impact Robin’s teaching had on the lives of thousands of young people, many of whom have gone on to have a career across the visual arts, including architecture.

In recognition of Robin Child’s time at Marlborough, the College has established a fully funded bursary for a young artist who would otherwise be unable to study here. The first recipient, who started at the College in September 2022, was funded thanks to a generous donation from Simon Mordant AO (B1 1973-77), a prominent art philanthropist and Member of Council. Simon said that “Robin unlocked and inspired my passion for Art that has transformed my life. I was delighted to be able to give a young person that same opportunity at Marlborough”.

Our aim now is to raise enough funds to continue to provide this bursary in the future. If you would be interested in supporting please contact Simon Lerwill, Director of Development, via or 01672 892438.
