749 Lecture 2021 – Air Marshal Sir Ian Macfadyen KCVO CB OBE (C2 1955-60)

We were delighted to welcome over 150 guests including pupils, staff, and members of the 749 Society to Marlborough for the annual 749 lecture following a two-year gap due to COVID. The lecture, on 16th November, is traditionally given on a subject related to military history and this year it was delivered by a distinguished member of the Armed Forces, Air Marshal Sir Ian Macfadyen KCVO CB OBE (C2 1955-60).

In the lecture entitled ‘Personal perspectives on the 1991 Gulf War’, Sir Ian spoke in the name and memory of his colleagues and Old Marlburians who gave the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving their country. The talk gave insights into his experiences during the Gulf War, including anecdotes and personal photographs.

The 749 society was formed in recognition of the generosity of donors, OMs, parents, and staff who enabled Memorial Hall to be restored in 2018, in time to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
