First Swindon partnership pupils secure bursary places at Marlborough
Three ambitious students from Swindon Academy will be joining Marlborough’s Sixth Form in September as part of our partnership work with the school, thanks to the generosity of our community who have supported bursaries through Marlborough College Foundation.
In 2016 Swindon Academy and Marlborough introduced the ‘Grammar Stream’, an innovative new scheme by which selected students at the academy follow a Grammar School style curriculum taught by specialist teachers, including College beaks. The students take part in residential study sessions at the College and receive subject mentoring and support with UCAS applications. All pupils on the Grammar Stream have the opportunity to apply for a Sixth Form bursary at Marlborough College and these three pupils are the first cohort to obtain places.
“Each year across the country, there are a number of highly able students within primary schools who do not fulfil their potential when they transfer to secondary school. We want to address this and, in partnership with Marlborough College, believe the Grammar Stream is the way to do this in Swindon”, explains Ruth Robinson, Principal of Swindon Academy.
“I am so pleased that three of our students have secured places at Marlborough. They are conscientious, hard working and enthusiastic students and I have every confidence they will take full advantage of every opportunity Marlborough has to offer them. I wish them all the very best as they embark on this very exciting chapter in their lives.”
